Miscarriage, habitual noncarrying of pregnancy: everything you need to know

15 October 2020

Unfortunately, in 20% of women, pregnancies ended in miscarriage or a frozen pregnancy. If a couple had to face this, then it is imperative to find out the cause of this problem so that in the future the pregnancy is successful and a full-term and healthy baby is born.

What do statistics say and what are the reasons for miscarriage?

In Ukraine, over the past few years, cases of miscarriage have increased. Many obstetricians-gynecologists face the diagnosis of miscarriage and missed pregnancy. In our country, this diagnosis exceeds 25% of cases. Of course, these situations do not happen without reason. Most often this happens due to:

  • hormonal disorders;
  • severe stress;
  • physical fatigue;
  • endocrine disorders;
  • the use of potent drugs, alcohol, other stimulating substances;
  • genetic abnormalities of the fetus;
  • pathology of the development of the genital organs of the mother;
  • fetal infection, etc.
  • poor quality sperm, etc.

However, medical practice, not all women manage to establish the true reason for the miscarriage. Such patients constitute a group of ‘unexplained’ miscarriage. Of course, such cases are very rare, but they still occur.

Examination for miscarriage

Some pregnant women ignore the symptoms of a threat of miscarriage, but during this period you need to be extremely careful about your health.

The miscarriage is a disease that can be affected by several factors at once. Many patients have a combination of several reasons, therefore it is worth undergoing a comprehensive examination using modern methods.

During a medical examination before the onset of the next pregnancy, several important measures need to be taken, during which the doctor:

  • specifies the presence or absence of any diseases, inflammatory processes in the body;
  • asks about menstrual irregularities and reproductive function;
  • clarifies whether there were any surgical interventions and gynecological diseases.

In addition, the doctor will perform an examination, assess the condition of the skin, determine the condition of the external and internal genital organs. He will also clarify the presence or absence of ovulation in the patient..

In solving this issue, there are also methods of instrumental research. Your doctor may order an x-ray of the uterus and appendages (hysterosalpingography). Thanks to ultrasound, it is possible to determine the state of the ovaries, the presence of cysts, uterine fibroids, endometriosis. If there is a suspicion of intrauterine pathology or endometrial pathology, then in this case it would be advisable to conduct a separate diagnostic curettage under the control of hysteroscopy. Operative laparoscopy may be needed, which is performed if there is a suspicion of endometriosis, tubal abnormalities and adhesions in the small pelvis, as well as for uterine myoma and scleropolycystic ovaries.

When examining the patient’s spouse, the doctor finds out the presence or absence of hereditary diseases, the presence of any congenital or acquired diseases. They also carry out a semen analysis, examination for infections. After that, medications may be prescribed.

Signs of termination of pregnancy

The following are the symptoms for which a woman needs urgent medical attention:

  • unusual pain in the lower abdomen (sharp, pulling);
  • blood-tinged discharge;
  • increased body temperature;
  • severe weakness.

All these and similar symptoms should alert the expectant mother. A modern visit to a doctor will increase the chances of maintaining a pregnancy and carrying a baby.

How can one reduce your risk of miscarriage?

In order for the next pregnancy to pass without any threats and difficulties, a woman needs to go through:

  • full examination before conception;
  • diagnosis of the causes of miscarriage;
  • competent and effective treatment.

Also, a woman must be psychologically and physically ready for pregnancy and be under the supervision of a doctor.

How to get pregnant after a miscarriage?

Many women who have suffered the loss of a child during pregnancy are wondering how to make their pregnancy successful. First, as mentioned above, you need to undergo a comprehensive examination by competent doctors who will make an accurate diagnosis and prescribe the correct treatment. It is also important to protect yourself from stress, fatigue, nervous tension, bad habits. It is very important to walk more, breathe fresh air and get only positive emotions.

After a miscarriage until the onset of a new pregnancy, it is better that six months have passed. This is the optimal time for a woman’s body to recover and have time to fully prepare for conceiving a child.

Gynecologists say that in this matter, haste is undesirable and the couple needs to consciously approach a new pregnancy and so to say ‘work on their mistakes’.

And finally, some more important tips:

  • you cannot independently make a decision about the readiness of your body to conceive;
  • consult your doctor to rule out possible risks.
  • you can always ask a gynecologist how to conceive a baby after an unsuccessful pregnancy; do not overdo your doctor’s recommendations.
